I am an education consultant with over 30 years of experience in education. A teacher for 18 years, I was a successful Head of Physical Education and went on to become a Teaching and Learning consultant for Somerset Local Authority. I was a senior leader in a highly successful all-through 3-16 school for 7 years and was also the only associate teaching trainer with Ginnis Training Ltd – an education consultancy company led by the late, great Paul Ginnis, author of The Teachers’ Toolkit. I run my own consultancy business, TLC Education Services Ltd and have worked in over 275 schools across England and Wales.
My work is focused solely on school improvement; mainly based in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 although in my previous role as Head of Staff development in a 3-16 school I supported teachers in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 as well. I have also been part of several teams that have taken schools out of unfavourable categories to secure good judgements in inspections.
My aim is to help schools, colleges, organisations and teachers translate evidence based and inspiring ideas about teaching and learning into effective practice by providing lively and interactive training and pragmatic and focused consultancy.
I provide a wide variety of professional development opportunities for individuals, schools, colleges and organisations.
Inset days: Bespoke to your needs – I can offer events that provide your staff with numerous evidence based strategies to implement immediately into the classroom. Practical, concrete and actionable examples and solutions, interactive sessions, time for reflection and planning.
Longer term consultancy: Regular or frequent ongoing support of a long term project and aspect of your school’s development – teaching and learning, coaching, leadership, behaviour, revision, staff development, appraisal, policies.
Keynote addresses: One-off inspiring keynote presentation precisely tailored to suit your requirements. Popular presentations include staff development, coaching, behaviour, leadership, learning from organisations outside of education and, of course, teaching and learning.
Twilight workshops: Bespoke workshops for all staff or specifically tailored for smaller small groups of teachers such as NQTs, RQTS, Teach First Participants, trainees, middle leaders and senior leadership teams. Themes to suit your school’s priorities.
In school support: I can provide department, phase or project reviews to support quality assurance of ongoing work at your school.
Individual support: I am an experienced and highly competent coach and can provide support for individual teachers at all levels of ability and experience.
Conferences: A tailored presentation to align with your own chosen conference programme and agenda. This may link to subsequent workshops or simply a way to start or end the conference.
Health checks: checks of your school’s processes to evaluate an aspect of your school’s work to produce a report and action plan.
Coaching: To help you successfully introduce, develop and embed a coaching culture across your school. Developmental and grade-less observations, providing feedback, and having coaching conversations to draw the best out of your staff.
I am married with three children, support Bath Rugby and West Ham United (clearly not a glory hunter) and I am an obsessive collector of vinyl records!
