I have been teaching in Bristol, North Somerset and B&NES schools since qualifying as a teacher of Modern Languages in 1987. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of inspirational colleagues who have helped mould me into who I am today.
Working with trainee teachers from local universities has given me a thorough grounding in the principles of coaching and mentoring and I am regularly invited in to speak to PGCE students on topics such as marking and differentiation.
I am an accredited facilitator for the Olevi Outstanding Teacher Programme which equipped me to help colleagues develop their expertise in areas such as questioning and assessment.
In my current role at Chew Valley School I lead a very successful MFL team and I have delivered staff training in Learning Development Groups in Inset sessions on themes such as marking and feedback.
My philosophy is that every teacher can improve and my experience is that the vast majority of us want very much to do that. Therefore I believe that school leaders should show support for their colleagues by providing them with a clear ethos towards teaching and learning, inspiring ideas for resources, examples of good practice and a willingness to invest in the development of every individual teacher and pupil.
